The idea came about when I had to find this info for my own websites to test. I had a hard time finding basic stuff for lists and references. The web just didn't have a single place to get the necessities. But that's not how it started. One day I got a call on my cell phone and I asked a question in my head, "What area code is that?" I saw "214" and thought there must be a simple site that gives you area codes, I typed "whatareacode.com" and it wasn't there. Then the idea took off, hopefully with ad and donation money it can last!
